They were pretty great back when……"Dont bring me down" was one of my favorites!

Actually, they are one of the most derivative bands from England. Jeff Lynne has made no secret that the Beatles were his primary influence, and John Lennon even said in 1974 when asked for the millionth time what the Beatles would sound like today if they were still together "I don’t know…why don’t you just listen to an ELO record?". Surely Mr. Lynne must have been popping woodies when asked to team up with George Harrison for his "Cloud 9" project, and the subsequent Traveling Willbury’s albums.
They produced well crafted, hook-laden pop songs with George Martin-esque string arrangements. But influential? Not really.
