Any ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) fans on here?
By admin | August 30, 2009
IF there are any ELO fans on this website, which ELO albums would you consider it being one of your favorites? I’m only a casual fan of ELO but I do believe that Jeff Lynne is a great songwriter and he sure knows how to make good albums as well as good hit singles, I liked ELO from On the Third Day to Out of the Blue albums, afterward was when they went downhill (I don’t care much for Don’t Bring me Down).
BTW ELO did not perform "Love is Like Oxygen" and "Fifth of Beethoven", it was Sweet that did "Love is Like Oxygen" and it was Walter Murphey that did "Fifth of Beethoven"

Old favorite:
"Mr. Blue Sky", from Out of the Blue (Double Album)
It was used recently in a movie, and it was amazing to hear it again.
Lynne is/was a genius. It really was pathetic when he jumped on the disco bandwagon — but it’s a lot like how all the artists try to sound hip-hop these days. You follow the trends or die, or in rare cases — you actually set the style and others follow it.
Until Xanadu, which was throw-away cuteness at the very least, Lynne’s work with ELO was different and colorful, quirky and layered fun.

ELO is a really good band, I thought that the Time and the Secret Messages were great albums (I didn’t care much for Discovery either and the songs on their Xanadu album were subpar compared to their mid 70’s hits), I liked Out of the Blue but it wasn’t as good as their early/mid 70’s albums, Face the Music and A New World Record were their best albums in my opinion

How can you not like Don’t Bring Me Down? Ah! That’s one of my favorites. Although I’m a fan of ELO, I just downloaded select songs. Some of my favorites are ‘Do Ya’, ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, ‘El Ultimo Tren A Londres (Last Train To London)’, ‘Fifth of Beethoven’, ‘Fire On High’, ‘Love Is Like Oxygen’, ‘Mr. Blue Sky,’ ‘Strange Magic’, ‘Telephone Line’, ‘The Fall’, and ‘Turn To Stone’.

I LOVED ELO!! They were so melodic and different than everyone else. They were a group that I grew up with. It’s good music to sing along to,espescially if you know the lyrics.
