No online translators, please. I want Native European or Canadian French speakers or someone who knows French to answer. It is a song by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) called "Hold on Tight".

Accroches-toi a ton reve
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sents — ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi a ton reve.

Merci beaucoup!

  • Martin S:

The song has the English meaning as well – if I remember it correctly it was:
Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship is sailing
When you feel your heart is braking
Hold on tight to your dream

This few lines also show perfectly the problem with translation.
silver_s… translated it correctly from French to English but the text had been translated to French from English for the song in a way that is can be sung to the music so it had been altered a little. If it is then translated back correctly it is not 100% the same as the original English version was.

  • silver_slips:

    Hold on to your dream,
    Hold on to your dream
When you see your boat leave,
When you feel your heart break
    Hold on to your dream.

word for word translation :-) from a true French-Canadian!
