I really like both, but I’m going to go with ELO. They were a really unique part of pop music, and a lot of Supertramp songs sort of sound the same.

Good question. I was growing up in that era
Definitely ELO, they had a lot more hits, and they were around a lot longer. Supertramp just had that one good album "Breakfast in America"

Both good bands during the 70’s. I personally would go with Supertramp because they were more unique. Their bearded millionaire look coupled with their pick of falsetto and baritone voices gave them more variety in their songs. I like the way they worked the Sax in a lot of their songs. Breakfast in America is excellent, yet overall, a gloomy record of sorts(if you’ve ever listened to the whole album). Buy their greatest hits.
ELO was unique also, yet Jeff Lynne was very much influenced by the Beatles. They were unusual, but their songs have a tendency to grate and go stale after repeated listenings. Supertramp has more listening power IMHO.
Both good groups from the 70’s. It’s really a matter of taste as to which one is better. Good Question.
