I was listening to an AM radio station a few years ago and came across a really good instrumental track that sounded as if it were from the late 50′s or early 60′s. It was a very calm song, in 4/4 time with triplets, the way so many popular songs were at the time. The most distinctive part was an opening and closing guitar riff that sounds almost identical to the introduction of Electric Light Orchestra’s "Shangri-La". Does anyone know this song title?

You can pick your favorite song or album by them, just pick whatever artists you want to answer about, don’t tell me about the ones who you think suck or you know nothing about. This is a question part five, other such questions posted later for other letters of the alphabet. Opinion poll/survey. Not in alphabetical order, but the E’s.

Response to comment: I didn’t put Evanescence in here because I made this list using my iTunes, and I guess I just don’t have them. I like a couple of their songs, I guess.

IN:
Madonna, Leonard Cohen, Bobby Darin, LaVern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Johnny Cash, Ruth Brown, Lloyd Price, Dusty Springfield, The Staple Singers, The Moonglows, Brenda Lee, Gene Ptney, Percy Sledge, Miles Davis.

Not IN:
Alice Cooper, The Moody Blues, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kiss, Steve Miller Band, Kansas, Steppenwolf, Emerson – Lake & Palmer, Canned Heat, Warren Zevon, Blue Oyster Cult, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Jeff Beck, Dire Straits, Ten Years After, Mountain, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rick Wakeman, Guess Who, Journey, Cars, Cheap Trick, ELO, Metallica, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Pat Benetar.

I remember an LP (I thought by ELO) in 1972, the cover of which had a surrealistic picture of a woman with a shaved head and light bulbs on the end of chords coming out of her head.
Can anyone remember who this was by?. I thought it was ELO but have looked at all their album covers and its not there.
Many thanks James but its not the one. The ladies head definately had wires (or something) with light bulbs on the end. Similar project though.

This is the stuff on my iTunes. If I really like an artist I’ll put a star by them. :)

Yesterday’s Revenge

Everyone says I listen to weird music. I guess it’s because I’m 14 and most kids my age listen to most of this stuff but yeah. & Yes I know some of it’s really cheesy… don’t be mean haha.
I don’t mind Lady Gaga. I mean I have about 5 or 6 of her songs, but I’m not a huge fan. Some of her songs are quite.. uh… annoying.
The Beatles aren’t still considered a good band…?

Uh… I disagree…
Some bands/singers I only have a few songs by (ex.- Brad Paisley, I have like two songs of his) but most of them I have full albums.

If your bored like me do this: Band face off (chose your favorite)?
Just bored so I made this up. Pick who you think the better band/artist is. There is a very big mix of music here.
If you don’t know the bands look them up on myspace
And don’t say neither..look them up and choose.

I put some really bad stuff at the end. :P Yeah I’ll cut myself off there… I know I’m missing some relevant stuff but yeah, anyway.

BQ: What is your favorite food?
BQ2: How much fun was this, on a scale of one to ten? :P

That AREN’T among the following:
Yes, Genesis, Magma, Gong, Emerson Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention, Rush, Kraftwerk, Traffic, Dixie Dregs, the Moody Blues, Marillion, Kansas, Tangerine Dream, Caravan, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Soft Machine, Hawkwind, Family, Mike Oldfield, Uriah Heep, Camel, Rick Wakeman, Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips, Peter Gabriel, the Flower Kings, the Strawbs, Renaissance, Can, Goblin, Wigwam, Electric Light Orchestra, King’s X, Amon Duul, Procol Harum, Brian Eno, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, Eloy, the Alan Parsons Project, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Asia, Vangelis, Supertramp, Adrian Belew, Styx, Robert Fripp, the Nice, the Mars Volta, Roxy Music, Roger Waters, Spirit, 10cc, Blood Sweat & Tears, Blackmore’s Night, Giles Giles and Fripp, and John Paul Jones?
Oh, really, Miss Eraserhead? Then which bands, out of these, aren’t progressive, hm?
Read the description, Stuie….

Listening to the music channel yesterday, I heard the Hoosier’s song, "Mr A".

To me, it sounded a lot like "Mr Blue Sky" by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

I’m not just saying this because of the title… they just sound very similar to me. What does everyone else think?

So is Floyd, Fish (not Phish, but Fish), Uriah Heep, Godley Creme, ELO (well actually they were better when they were called the Electric Light Orchestra–they were only mediocre after they changed their name to ELO), Marillion, etc. etc.

Everyone is so excited that Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel are reuniting Genesis, but I can’t think of anyone more boring than these 2 guys unless you count the other 3 guys in Genesis.

For those of you think that 10CC and Godley Creme are defined by "Cry", "Things We Do For Love", and "I’m Not in Love" need to do your musical homework. Get the following albums and then tell me that Genesis is a better band: L, Freeze Frame, and How Dare You.
