Song recommendations from 60s, 70s, 80s?

By admin | March 1, 2010

Please give me your favorite songs from these eras. I’d like to expand my tastes in music. I especially like Black Sabbath, Electric Light Orchestra, Squeeze, Roxy Music, Hall & Oates, and Todd Rundgren — but I’m open to anything y’all might give me. :)
I especially like the early songs from Pink Floyd. I absolutely adore Syd Barrett.

If you like Sabbath, I’d try some Cream, Deep Purple and solo Ozzy Osbourne.

ELO evolved out of Jeff Lynne wanting to make a "band that sounded like ‘I am the Walrus’ " so I’d listen to late period Beatles (anything from SGT PEPPER on) if you haven’t heard those already. Also try XTC, The Move and the Moody Blues.

Squeeze is also Beatlesque pop so check out Marshall Crenshaw, Crowded House and Jellyfish.

Hall and Oates is essentially slightly updated Philadelphia 70s soul so try some of the O’Jays, The Chi-Lites and maybe some 70s Marvin Gaye like LET’S GET IN ON or WHAT’S GOING ON?

    Happy listening…

Paul Simon. Billy Joel. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. CCR. Van Morrison. Nearly any song from these artists will be great.

Have fun with your search – there are so many great artists from those decades!
