…And now it's my Battle of the Bands! (Prog Battle)?
By admin | March 30, 2010
For my Battle of the Bands, I’m going to shake it up a little, so all bands will be in the progressive rock or metal genre.
Pick one band from each match-up, and the one with the most votes from each will move on. Note: I only had 31 bands, so one band will get a first round bye.
Rush vs. Between the Buried and Me
Jethro Tull vs. Symphony X
Genesis vs. Radiohead
Opeth vs. Camel
Death (later albums) vs. Tool
Dream Theater vs. Yes
Mastodon vs. The Mars Volta
Asia vs. Fates Warning
The Moody Blues vs. Kansas
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer vs. Styx
Muse vs. Enslaved
Queensryche vs. Coheed and Cambria
Meshuggah vs. Gojira
Electric Light Orchestra vs. Porcupine Tree
King Crimson vs. Voivod

Does anyone know any good songs with reverse parts in them?
By admin | March 28, 2010
I don’t mean songs that are actually put in reverse, but with parts of reverse music in them. For example: Cheyenne by Settle the Sky, Fire on High by Electric Light Orchestra, and if you listen closely, Nude by Radiohead.
I’m not necessarily looking for hidden messages, they are ok, but I like music that is reversed too. For example, The beginning of Cheyenne.

Songs to put on a playlist for my dad?
By admin | March 25, 2010
I’m burning a CD for my dad. He likes poppish stuff like Roy Orbison and Phil Collins and The Carpenters. I like his music, but I also like rock/alternative stuff more, and was thinking of burning a CD for him to listen to.
NOTHING HEAVY. I don’t think I can ever get him into Led Zeppelin
Easy ballads, with clear vocals.
Here are songs I am thinking of
The Travelling Wilburys- Handle With Care
Genesis- No Son Of Mine
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here album, DSOTM
Eric Clapton- Wonderful Tonight
Electric Light Orchestra- Livin’ Thing, Shangri-La
Jeff Buckley- Morning Theft, Grace, etc.
Thanks!
I’m trying to ease him into rock lol

Favorite Beatlesque Bands?
By admin | March 24, 2010
I want some more bands with that classic Beatlesque sound, it doesn’t have to be total Beatles ripoff zone, it should be original, but just with that classic pop sound that the Beatles innovated.
No Oasis.
I’m thinking more along the lines of Electric Light Orchestra, but it can get as far as stuff like Elton John even, you get the idea… classic melodic pop music… it can be from any era, try and name a decent amount of bands. Links are appreciated, thanks.
BQ: Favorite Beatlesque song not by the Beatles.
BQ2: What do you like to do for fun? ![]()
Dammit, don’t be so obvious… I don’t just want a bunch of classic rock that everyone has heard.
No Panic! At the Disco stuff either.
I’ll check out those bands, third answer.
Yeah, I’ve heard The Move.

What's the name of the instrumental 50's rock song that sounds like "Shangri-La"?
By admin | March 21, 2010
I was listening to an AM radio station a few years ago and came across a really good instrumental track that sounded as if it were from the late 50’s or early 60’s. It was a very calm song, in 4/4 time with triplets, the way so many popular songs were at the time. The most distinctive part was an opening and closing guitar riff that sounds almost identical to the introduction of Electric Light Orchestra’s "Shangri-La". Does anyone know this song title?
